Dyson DC65 Animal Vacuum Review
“Wow – This sucker rocks!!”
I don’t know about you, but whenever I buy a new product I only want the best one for the job.
I spend hours researching and when I’m ready to finally make the purchase, I get so excited.
Well, that’s how I ended up buying this Dyson DC65. It totally is the best vacuum on the market.
After all the vacuum reviews and ratings I’ve read over the last day or two, I can say with complete confidence that I am now an expert on vacuum cleaners.
Bagged or Bagless, Upright or Canister, after my extensive research at places like Bed, Bath & Beyond, CNET and Amazon, I know which vacuum cleaners are great and which are completely useless and that’s why I’m about to share my review of this winner with you.
Why The Dyson DC65 Is So Good
I live in a reasonably sized two story house with my partner, two grand kids and a dog. The kids are always running in and out bringing in all kinds of dust and dirt from outside and the dog is just as bad with hairs that get everywhere.
My home comprises of 50% hard floors including tiles and 50% carpet, mostly short pile.
Being a Hoover repair engineer, I previously used to have a Hoover vac for picking up pet hairs until it died of old age, and to be honest, it did a reasonable job of cleaning the carpets. But now I wanted to try the best pet hair vacuum.
For the hard floors, I had to sweep with a brush because the Hoover just didn’t work properly on them. It just couldn’t suck hard enough to cope, unlike the best vacuum for hardwood floors.
I needed a new vacuum cleaner and this time I wanted something that could do the whole job, all around the house, top to bottom.
I wasn’t sure if there was such a machine that could clean carpets complete with pet hair and hard floors such as wood, vinyl and tiles without damaging them.
Fortunately there was and after my extensive research of many different brands and models of vacuum cleaner, I settled on the Dyson DC65 Animal. Checkout my comparison chart below to see other models.
Dyson DC65 Animal Complete Review
So, What Exactly Is The Dyson DC65?
The DC65 is one of the newest models from the innovative Dyson organization. It actually comes in three different model types depending on your individual needs and household requirements.
Although the basic machines are the same, the main differences are the accessory packs and extra tools which allow you to tailor the cleaner to your own individual circumstances.
The Dyson DC65 Animal Complete is all singing, all dancing and includes attachments such as a combination accessory tool, soft dusting brush, stair tool, tangle-free turbine tool, stiff bristle brush, multi-angle brush, Zorb powder and a tool storage bag.
The Dyson DC65 Multi Floor doesn’t come with a tangle-free turbine tool, multi-angle brush, soft dusting brush, Zorb powder, stiff bristle brush or tool storage bag.
The Dyson DC65 Animal doesn’t include the Zorb powder, stiff bristle brush, multi-angle brush or the tool storage bag.
More Suction Power Than Most
The Dyson DC65 has 25%+ more suction power than previous models making it the most powerful upright vacuum cleaner on the market. It has to be the best Dyson vacuum cleaner to date! The cordless scored pretty highly as well. Checkout my Dyson V6 comparison.
It maximizes suction power by using the patented Radial Root Cyclone Technology and a reconfigured brush bar to remove as much dust, mold spores, pollen and dirt as possible from throughout your home.
You’ll really notice the difference when you’re emptying the clear dirt canister. I certainly did!
The vortex fingers and cyclone inlets have been refined and improved to improve airflow efficiency and suction throughout the machine.
This re-configuration helps preserve air pressure and reduce turbulence in the outer cyclones which allows more microscopic particles to be removed by the inner cyclones.
Redesigned Brush Bar Offers Better All Round Performance
The Dyson engineers have also reconfigured the Brush Bar to have shorter, stiffer bristles made of anti-static carbon fiber filaments.
This allows the Brush Bar to penetrate deeper into carpets, even deep pile, removing more ground-in dirt whilst still maintaining superior cleaning performance over hard floors such as wood, vinyl, stone, tiles and granite.
This is really great for picking up the sand and grit that the dog brings home after his leisurely beach walks.
They have even re-designed the cleaner head moving the ridges higher up to allow the Brush Bar to spin completely throughout the end-to-end width of the head.
This means that you can now vacuum right up against your baseboards saving you time that used to be wasted using the wand attachment.
No Suction Loss Between Carpet & Hard Flooring
The Dyson DC65 Plus range includes an innovative, self-adjusting, active base plate on the cleaner head which creates optimal contact with all floor types allowing seamless transition between carpet and hardwood floor.
No more need to adjust dials depending on the floor surface you are vacuuming.
Together with the 25% more power from the Radial Root Cyclone technology, the base plate seals in suction whilst moving across carpets and hard floors reducing air leaks and maintaining consistent suction right through the cleaning head.
Does The Dyson DC65 Multi Floor, Animal & Animal Complete Include A Warranty?
It certainly does, but you shouldn’t need to use it. All Dyson’s mains powered vacuum cleaners are covered by a no quibble parts and labor 5 year warranty when purchased through an authorized reseller. See also my Dyson DC33 reviews.
A Dyson engineer will even visit your home or workplace and repair it for you if it breaks down.
Make sure you visit Dyson.com to register your new vacuum cleaner as soon as you can to valid your 5 year warrany.
What Else Should You Know About The Dyson DC65?
There are no extra costs associated with this vacuum cleaner such as replacement filters, bags or parts. The machine comes with lifetime, washable, allergy reducing HEPA filters.
The basic machine is not hard to push at all and weighs in at around 17.35lbs and is 42.4″ x 13.4″ x 15.4″. The hose length is approx 15.4 feet.
It is not cordless, see DC59 Motorhead Vs Animal, but don’t let that deter you because the power cord is now longer than ever stretching out to 35ft and the clear dust container has a 0.55 gallon capacity.
Getting Started: It’s Easy To Unbox And Assemble?
Assembly and disassembly is as easy as 1,2,3! Getting started – 1) Remove the cleaner from the box and packaging. 2) Connect the brush-bar or motorhead to the bottom. 3) Connect the handle to the extension hose at the top. Plug in and start vacuuming. Really simple, no fuss!
What Other Customers Thought About The DC65 Animal Complete
Many people who have bought the Dyson DC65 Animal Complete model are really impressed with the amount of power and suction it has, even after the dust canister has filled up. Some have even upgraded from the Shark Navigator Lift Away Pro.
As I mentioned above, this is down to the Radial Root Cyclone Technology. It also comes 95% pre-assembled and ready to go. Checkout these consumer reports. Here’s what a happy customer from Amazon.com has to say:
Today I shaved my fluffy dog and there was hair EVERYWHERE. I used the smaller vacuum and it didn’t really clean it up. Her hair is so fine and furry, not like hair so much as fuzz, so it sticks to everything. I pulled this out and Wow…it was amazing. Then I noticed the collection tank was full. It surprised me that it still has so much power even with a tank full of crap. I am more impressed every time I use this. Mandy Payne from Amazon.com
We now know that the Dyson DC65 is the most powerful upright vacuum cleaner, but some customers are still blown away by the sheer sucking power of the machine. Some even thought the Miele C3 Alize sucked well until they tried this machine.
Probably the best feature of this model is the re-designed cleaning head than can vacuum right up against baseboards and walls where other cleaners miss.
Eric C Sedensky from Amazon.com also mentioned that his rug tassels didn’t even get tangled as he rolled over them. Here’s what he had to say in his review:
I immediately knew why they call it an animal. It’s a very powerful vacuum. With the rug beater running, you actually have to hold the vacuum back. It is that powerful. The edge cleaning mechanism works great and I could see areas that this vacuum’s big brother had missed getting noticeably clean. I ran the head attachment over some rug tassels and they did not get tangled and did not cause the grinding like they did in the previous model.
Dyson have been making vacuums for years, such as the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal+Allergy, with their easy-to-recognize ball to aid maneuvering and control around objects and furniture within your home.
One of my favorite reviewers on Amazon.com remarked how happy she was that the ball is soft and didn’t hurt her toes as she ran over them. She said this:
Maneuvering the ball takes a little getting used to and a little more arm and wrist strength than just pushing back and forth and it also requires some balance. The best thing about the ball is when you roll it over your foot, it doesn’t hurt. It just flexes up and protects your slippered toes from a painful, crushing encounter.
Some Things You Should Know Before You Buy
Everyone knows there is no such thing as a perfectly designed product and the innovative DC65 is no exception. Although I didn’t find these to be a problem, some reviewers on Amazon did, so I want to make you aware of them for complete disclosure in my review.
1) The Dyson DC65 is quite noisy when it running. I found the noise to be acceptable due to the massive suction that was going on and it gave me a sense of how powerful my new cleaning tool actually was.
2) Some people remarked on how expensive this machine was compared to other upright models asking, are Dyson vacuums worth the price? I don’t think the model is overpriced and like any quality tool, you only get what you pay for.
If you want to spend $100 on a vacuum cleaner, then you can’t expect features such as the huge sucking power, versatility on carpet and hard floors as well as the no quibble warranty.
